Springfield Rocks! – The Elms

The Elms are a straight ahead rock-n-roll band hailing from Seymour, Indiana.  Lead guitarist Thom Daugherty used to be a member of the Springfield rock scene as a member of The People, who eventually became The Golden Republic, which spawned The Republic Tigers, and Soft Reeds.

Thom is a guitar legend in Springfield circles, and is sure to be nationally recognized for his abilities in the future.  I barely know Thom, but it’s safe to say he is a rock-n-roll purist.  You won’t find Thom layering guitar track after guitar track on a recording, or smothering his guitar in delay and reverb.  He’s one of those guys who just turns up the amp and plays with what is in his soul.

As for the Elms, they have shared the stage with rock legends including Neil Young, Peter Frampton, and Buddy Guy.   They probably aren’t a band who will ever have a massive hit, although I would love to see it happen. Instead, they have steadily gained success through hard work, constant touring, and solid songwriting.  They’re a blue-collar band, more concerned with substance than style.

You can download their new album “The Great American Midrange” on iTunes, or get a deluxe version for the same price, which includes acoustics versions of each song along with the original “TGAM” tracks here.
