Springfield Rocks! – The Republic Tigers

I promised to bring you some great music with ties to the Springfield, Missouri area, so I thought I would kick it off with a band that named themselves after my high school.
The Republic Tigers were formed by Kenn Jankowski after his previous band, The Golden Republic (which I will feature in another post later), parted ways. Kenn lived in the Springfield area for a while, and played in various local bands. He attended Republic High School (whose mascot is the Tiger) , which is where the name The Republic Tigers comes from. Although, I’m sure it also has something to do with his previous band being The Golden Republic.
I also attended Republic High school, so it’s pretty fun to tell people that this band is somehow connected to my school.
Spin Magazine called them a weird mix of Enya, Bright Eyes, and Air, which is kind of true. I just think they write some really inventive music. Check out their album Keep Color on iTunes.
